Artist: Hikari Shimoda

Hikari Shimoda (Japanese, b. 1984) began her career as a contemporary art painter in 2008, but it was only in the aftermath of 2011’s Great East Japan Earthquake and accident of Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant that her voice clarified into what is represented today. Expressed frequently through her ongoing Whereabouts of
God and Children of This Planet painting series, she employs otherwordly children to express countless possibilities for fear and joy. In 2017, she partnered with APPortfolio to produce her first designer toy sculpture, a bust representation of one of her familiar subjects.
